Elpida Vogli is a Professor of Modern Greek History at the Democritus University of Thrace. Her research interests are divided into three main areas. First, she focuses on topics related to citizenship, national and gender identities, nationalism, state building, diaspora policies, migration, and social and political rights. She also has scholarly interests in political and social history, as well as the historical development of the family institution. Second, her research focuses on historiography, methodology, and theoretical frameworks within the fields of history, the humanities, digital humanities, and the social sciences, as well as the application of AI in history and the social sciences. The third area of her research focuses on the development of collective perceptions in modern society, including the motivations behind communication and media, such as advertising and social media, as well as the interaction between cinema, television, and history. She teaches postgraduate courses like “History of Medicine and Social Medicalization”, “The Discourses of Communication, Mass and Social Media”, and “Nations, Nationalism, and Identities in the Balkans” at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Open University, and the Democritus University of Thrace. Recently, she joined the Greek Research Network for Digital Humanities and the Greek Society for Environmental History. She is also a member of the editorial board of Nationalities Papers: The Journal of Nationalism and Ethnicity. Her recent publications include the books The Fields of History in the Past and Present (Pedio publications, 2023) and (co-authored) ‘Una faccia … the same crisis?’ Interdisciplinary Greco-Italian Routes from the Depression to the Pandemic (Asini publications, 2023).
