Professor Paschalis Valsamidis was born and educated in Istanbul. He holds a degree from the Theological School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as a master’s and a doctorate in the history of Hellenism in Eastern Thrace. His research focuses on the Greek Orthodox communities of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey. He is also engaged with the history of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the history and education of the Turks of Macedonia (19th century–1924), as well as the Turkish language and literature. He has published numerous books and articles in scholarly journals, honorary volumes, conference proceedings, the press, and online. He has presented papers at academic and international conferences and has given lectures in Turkey.
