Assistant Professor

Efstratios Sarischoulis, son of the philologists Thanasis Sarischoulis and Mairi Karatza – Sarischoulis, completed his undergraduate studies at the Pedagogical Academy of Thessaloniki and the Department of Philology at the Faculty of Philosophy of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He holds a Ph.D. in Classical Philology, having completed his doctoral thesis at the Freie Universität Berlin. He has worked as a teacher of Greek Language at the Oranienburg Open University, the Association of Greek Academics and Scientists in Berlin, and the Adult Education Department of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture (Berlin Branch), as a teacher at the private elementary school of the Hellenic-French College De La Salle in Thessaloniki, and as an Academic Advisor at the Open University of Cyprus. He was also a long-time Scientific Associate at the Department of Linguistics of the Centre for the Greek Language (K.E.G.) within related research programs. He co-authored a Grammar and Syntax of Modern Greek with Mr. Dimitris Kosmas and translated his father Thanasis Sarischoulis’ novel Odós Apolloníados (Apollonias Street) from Greek into German in cooperation with Mrs. Ingeborg Brandstaetter. His academic work includes three books that focus both on the analysis and interpretation of specific positions and views in Homeric narration and the description of the narrative technique in the Iliad and the Odyssey, as well as the cosmology reflected in them. In his five articles, he also addressed the etymology and interpretation of terms that appear in Homer and in Linear B. He is currently working on his fourth book, which focuses on the epigraphs of Asia Minor and neighboring regions in antiquity.
