History

Alexandros Papazoglou holds a B.A. in History, Archaeology, and Social Anthropology from
the University of Thessaly, an M.A. in Black Sea Studies from Democritus University of
Thrace, and a Ph.D. from the Department of Languages, Literature, and Culture of the Black
Sea Countries (D.U.Th.). His dissertation examined Hellenism in the Ottoman Empire during
the 19th and 20th centuries. Drawing on primary sources, Alexandros Papazoglou studies
Hellenism across the Black Sea region and expands into the history of the Ecumenical
Patriarchate, post-Byzantine philology and history, and Greek palaeography. He has taught both
undergraduate and graduate courses at Trakya University, Democritus University of Thrace,
and the University of Cyprus. His project portfolio includes research collaborations at
Democritus University of Thrace and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and
since 2025, contribution to Work Package (WP) 4 – Enhancing Mobility within the EMERGE
European University Alliance (Empowering the Margins of Europe through Regional and
Global Engagement).
